The Gods of Chaos are primeval forces dedicated to conquering not just the Mortal Realms, but reality itself. From the Realm of Chaos, the gods Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle and Slaanesh send forth their daemonic legions, as their herald in the realms, Archaon the Everchosen, leads vast armies of corrupted mortals. Meanwhile, the rat-like skaven infest the realms, pursuing their own nefarious goals.
Below, you will find information about each of the various factions of the Mortal Realms, including a brief overview of who they are and why they fight, alongside an introduction to their playing style.
The coming of Chaos to the Mortal Realms perverted nature itself, turning many creatures into servants of darkness. From the Brayherds, goat-headed warriors who inhabit the dark forests of the realms, to the mighty Thunderscorn Dragon Ogors who feed on lightning, and mutant monsters such as Chimera, these varied creature add warped bestial power to many a Chaos army.
The servants of Archaon, the Exalted Grand Marshal of the Apocalypse, march to war beneath his dread banner in countless hordes of corrupted mortal warriors fighting alongside the fearsome Varanguard and the magic of the cunning Gaunt Summoners. Seeking ever to subjugate the Mortal Realms under the power of the Dark Gods, when led by Archaon himself, a Chaos army is nigh unstoppable.
The savage servants of the Blood God – mortal and daemonic alike – are feared across the Mortal Realms. Ferocious murderers one and all, they strive to shed blood and reap skulls, desperate to gain the attention of their infernal master. A Blades of Khorne army consists of powerful troops whose abilities are enhanced by nearby heroes, backed up by vicious daemons.
Bloated with corpse-gas, their diseased forms swelling and rotting from the inside out, the servants of Nurgle are a reminder of the fate that awaits all living creatures. Their mortal warriors, made insensate to even the mightiest attacks by the contagions that ravage them, march alongside shambling daemons in an army that is as resilient as it is hideous to behold.
The skaven are creatures of Chaos, but follow their own master, the sinister Horned Rat. Their many clans utilise sorcery, arcane technology, plagues and flesh-warping powers to further their inscrutable goals. Characterised by skittering hordes of rat-men, an army of skaven can specialise in any of these areas, or mix them into a dangerous and unpredictable force that will keep their enemies on their toes.
Slaanesh, the missing Prince of the Dark Gods, is the embodiment of hidden desires and excess. His servants exemplify this – decadent hosts following charismatic leaders and shedding their humanity with every depraved act they perform. When the hideously alluring daemons of their god accompany them to battle, none are safe from this parade of slaughter.
Change follows the armies of Tzeentch as they march. Human cultists follow the whims of their sorcerous master, while powerful wizards and capering daemons fill the air with a magical onslaught of scintillating and mutagenic powers. Devastating sorcery and daemons who multiply when they are killed are among the many subtle and deadly threats a Disciples of Tzeentch army brings to the tabletop.
