At its core, Warhammer is a wargame where you match wits with your friends on the field of battle. Outsmart your enemy, outmanoeuvre their forces, and take advantage of your army's strengths – but never forget the role of luck. Each and every game is a thrilling experience.

"Being able to escape work and collide on a tabletop with like-minded people is the best feeling" Steve Curtis, Playtester

You'll need to set up a few things to have a proper game: a stable gaming surface, dice, something to measure distances, a copy of the rules, and of course a pair of armies.

The Rules

Whether you're using the Core Book, a condensed version like the ones in the Starter Sets, or even the Warhammer Age of Sigmar app, you'll want a copy of the rules close to hand for easy reference.
02

Dice

Conflict in Warhammer Age of Sigmar is resolved by tossing handfuls of six-sided dice. You'll roll them every time you attack an enemy, cast a spell, use special abilities, and lots more besides.
03

Combat Gauge

This handy tool helps you quickly and easily measure small distances – such as the reach of hand-held weapons, the distance between models in a unit, and the how far they can move before fighting in melee combat.
04

Your Army

Every army in Warhammer Age of Sigmar is composed of units. Some are single large models, others are grouped together. The models represent the troops, monsters, war engines, wizards, and heroes at your disposal.
05

Tape Measure

Distances in Warhammer Age of Sigmar are measured in inches. You'll need a tape measure or similar device to calculate how far your units can move, shoot missile weapons, cast spells, and more.
06

Terrain

Battles are rarely fought on flat plains with no structures in sight. Armies might skirmish in ruined buildings or hunt one another through dense forests. Scenery kits help you create a 3D environment in which the action takes place.
07

Warscrolls

Each unit in the game is different. Each has a profile to show how brave they are, how strong their armour is, how powerful their weapons, and any unique abilities they possess. These are all included on warscrolls.
